STYLE : Keeping it Natural

STYLE : Keeping it Natural

Growing up, I’d go into my mom’s closet and try on articles of clothing, rummage through her shoes, and steal a few purses to store my toys and maybe a Lip Smackers or two. What I remember most were these intricately woven satchels and totes that were handmade in the Philippines and wreaked of this strong and distinct natural grass like aroma upon opening one. Some were lined with a light linen, others just the raw woven reeds, and my favorite ones had patterns and floral motifs woven right into the purse.

Having grown up with these handcrafted accessories, it was interesting to see them in the forefront of major fashion apparel sites and blown up all over social media as the 'hot new thing'. Whenever I see these types of bags it’s more nostalgic than fashionable, but it’s a trend that I can get on board with; especially during these summer months!

The best part about these purses and totes is how neutral and easy they are without feeling too refined or polished. They’re resilient if being used at the farmers market, versatile enough if going to the beach then dinner, and made of natural fibers so there must be a ‘green’ component in there somewhere, right?!

Nonetheless, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorites that run the gamut from casual and laid back to special occasion.

Enjoy!
