STYLE : The Crop Pant

STYLE : The Crop Pant

Style Preface

The beautiful thing about fashion is that it's the first creative thing we do everyday-decide what goes on our backs. For some it's fun, for others a painstaking task, and for the few a thoughtless act. But in this day and age with fast-fashion and constant reminders of what we don't have filtered through multiple media streams, it becomes harder and harder to differentiate between our needs and wants. While I'm no fashion guru and I can't completely say I haven't fallen victim into buying things just to buy them (I mean, you should see me at Target with my Cartwheel App and 5% off Target debit card),  I have been making strides in curating my closet, and making a conscious effort to refrain from impulse shopping.

My closet is a mish-mosh of sentimental pieces hanging next to the 'I might wear this again' garments that are also adjacent to the 'I wear this all the time' items. So just like most women it's trying to delineate between what pieces I should realistically keep, what investment wardrobe 'workhorses' I should buy, and how the hell do I weave through the mess and begin to realize my personal style.

This section in particular is labeled 'Style' because the word Fashion just sounds so impersonal. Style for me is more curated and thoughtful, while fashion is quick and ever changing. And when you're on a budget, paying bills, and saving for a wedding, shopping becomes more of a methodical almost strategic process- what am I allocating my money towards and how often am I actually going to wear this?

Now, while I don't think my style is earth shatteringly different than the next person and probably not everyone's cup of tea, I hope this section can at the very least provide a rough framework as to what you should splurge versus save on and how to mix key pieces to make them work for you and your body type. I mean, why are the majority of bloggers tall and skinny? Where are all the 5'-0" average Filipino women who struggle with finding clothes that fit? At the end of the day, we all try our best to get it all together and even if we don't, we can at least look like we kinda-sorta do!

Spring for me is about lighter fabrics, transitional pieces, and waning off of heavier knits and the daily go-to's of leggings with boots (guilty!). So when shopping for a few key items to help freshen up my wardrobe I gravitate towards versatile items that will last more than one season, but can withstand this spring, next spring and perhaps the spring after that. I'm not much for color and wear it very sparingly, so in turn a lot of the pieces in my closet can be worn with one another and still feel somewhat fresh.

Right now I'm loving the crop pant which surprisingly works well on my five foot frame! There's something nice about exposing my pale winter ankles that make my outfits feel less winter drab and more spring fab. But the key to a crop pant is making sure they're not peddle pusher high or 'flooding' low; you have to get the hem in that sweet spot right below the calf. The beautiful thing about the crop pant is that it can easily transition based on your shoe choice. For work throw on your favorite pair of flats then at 5 O'clock kick those off and opt of a wedge or heel for happy hour!

I've paired my crop pants with a simple cotton button up, my new go-to slip on leather mules, and my spring bucket bag. Simple, easy, comfortable, and effortless!

My favorite go-to watch that was a gift from my fiance and mother-in-law. A great starter watch that's near and dear to me!
