REFRESH : Spring Pick-Me-Up

REFRESH : Spring Pick-Me-Up

Now that all of that winter dust has settled it's time to clean, refresh, purge, and brighten up your space because unfortunately there's no such thing as spring hibernating. This time of year I always get this itch to start a new home project, but thanks to wedding planning/budgeting/saving, my grandiose ideas were quickly put into check!

So here are some quick and foolproof ways to make your home scream, 'I'm Clean! (kind of)', and make your parents or in-laws say, 'The place looks great did you do something different?'

A scented Candle - Moving away from musky cinnamon filled vessels that smell like winter Netflix binging and cider and introducing a fresh scent into your home makes a huge difference. Now that it's spring your home should smell of daffodils and children getting grass stains on their Sunday Easter clothes while harvesting 99 cent chocolates out of plastic florescent eggs. It's just an all around great season. But there is something refreshing about burning a candle or using a wall plug-in with lighter floral notes that's uplifting and bright. I mean who doesn't want to walk into their home like one of those women in a Febreeze commercial?

Throw Pillows - I've learned that throw pillows are a great way to add a splash of color and personality to any space. But this only works on spaces, not that dull co-worker who never talks. It adds an element of texture and depending on scale can create a bold statement or just become an accent.

House Plants - I have NO green thumb, but I'm really good at picking out plants that I think are pretty, and I can appreciate a good low maintenance air plant or succulent. But there is something beautiful about bringing the outdoors in and adding 'life' to a space especially during the gray, drab, melancholy season that is early-mid Spring.

Art + Photos - I've started to collect art here and there and found that moving these pieces around creates a new energy in a space depending on where they're placed. It's an affordable way to highlight a wall, create points of interest, and it's the perfect excuse to go print photos! No one really wants to breathe over your shoulder as you finger through 600 vacation photos! So go ahead and change out that family vacation photo for a portrait of your cat because no one is judging you except for me.
